Mini-studies are action research projects applied in the classroom with six students (two from the top, middle, and low tiers based on assessment data) where the teachers must follow the model for effective instruction. This includes pre-assessment screening; differentiated instruction; post assessment to gauge effectiveness of instruction; reflection and analysis to see what should be done differently; what was effective and should be celebrated and collaborating and sharing with their coach and colleagues. The mini-study focuses not only on assessment, but on developing an appropriate instructional response/intervention based on assessment results and ongoing monitoring to determine if the response is effective.
