Pennsylvania Reading First reaches 1000 enrollments!

Teachers from Pennsylvania's Reading First schools have hit the one thousand mark for course enrollments with the eMBEDDED LEARNING™ online professional development system. In only five short months, enrollments in the Early Literacy Series of courses have swelled beyond the millennial mark. Many teachers also are going above and beyond their call of duty by enrolling in the graduate-level version of the courses, allowing them the opportunity to apply what they learn to a master's degree! The partnership between Learning Sciences International and nationally-acclaimed Wilkes University has brought this format onto center stage, and is an exciting new approach to online learning!

Initially offered in fall 2005, courses were embraced by Reading First School Districts, and enriched by experienced online facilitators. Teachers who completed the first course are already preparing to start their second course in the Early Literacy Series. The Pennsylvania Department of Education teamed up with Learning Sciences International, and created a new way of thinking, a new way of learning, a new way of teaching! eMBEDDED LEARNING™ also has courses in technology in education, and will soon offer a course series in Coaching.

The two facets of the courses that make them stand above the rest are: 1) These courses are job-embedded, so teachers take what they learn in the courses and immediately apply it to their classrooms through a series of mini-studies and activities focused on their classrooms' literacy programs; and 2) The courses are facilitated by experts in their respective fields, offering real-world insight and guidance to their peers, while allowing the content of the online course to speak for itself. No other online professional development programs can offer these attributes in quite the same way.
