LSI and Wilkes University Announce a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Literacy! Learning Sciences International and Wilkes University are proud to present an online graduate degree. The Master of Science in Education: Major in Early Childhood Literacy is offered through Wilkes University, and accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Courses are designed and hosted by LSI, and learners take the courses through LSI's PA Reading First site.
Unlike other graduate degree programs, in which you register for classes you hope will be available, then travel to the campus or a satellite campus to sit in class until 10:00 at night, our degree program offers you the same convenience as the rest of the courses you have taken with us! The same content-rich, interschool atmosphere will exist in this program, only now there is a specific target. And all without the lofty costs of textbooks! Another benefit to the degree is that you are not bound by traditional academic calendars; all classes are based on a rolling enrollment, and are subsequently released. When asked about her thoughts regarding this new and exciting program, Sue Elliott, Reading First Technical Assistant, pointed out that learners can: "maximize [their] best learning time (morning people versus night owls) while having the opportunity to connect with online learners from distant locations." She goes on to say that an additional benefit to the program is having the opportunity to participate in "meaningful activities which connect directly to daily teaching (using what you are currently doing and refining it or adding just a bit more)." Others strongly agree with Sue's sentiments. Jennifer Shettel, a Reading Specialist and Literacy Coach, appreciates the "high quality courses designed by a team of real educators," and the fact that teachers can "learn about the most current and up-to-date strategies." Many of LSI's finest facilitators echo these same thoughts. Nancy Mast, a Reading First Technical Assistant who recently moved to Pennsylvania from Virginia states, "The applied learning is excellent. This is a content-related avenue for new teachers to get their Master's Degrees, and many new teachers seem to be going for their graduate degrees earlier than ever." With such strong support from associated experts, this degree program is expected to receive tremendous interest right away. The Master of Science in Education:Major in Early Childhood Literacy consists of 33 credits, including a six-credit Early Literacy Practicum and a three-credit course in Teacher Leadership. This is one of the first degrees of its kind, and is one that you can use and implement immediately into your teaching practices.
